If you would like to decommission your vehicle as an end-of-life vehicle, please take note of the following:

In order to deregister your end-of-life vehicle you will need a so-called certificate of destruction. The certificate of destruction confirms that your vehicle was properly disposed of.

This certificate of destruction can only be issued by a certified Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF), certified and authorised acceptance point or a manufacturer approved take-back station.

In order to achieve simple disposal of your end-of-life vehicle, Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd maintains a nationwide network of take-back stations, which take back your used Mercedes-Benz free of charge.

Our contracted dismantling operators are certified and fulfil all the legal requirements. Furthermore, they are audited according to our quality criteria and subjected to our monitoring.

Firstly, the vehicle will be depolluted according to legal requirements in which all of the vehicle's operating fluids (e.g. oil, brake fluid) are removed and recycled.

Subsequently the reusable parts and recoverable materials are dismantled. The recoverable materials such as glass, tyres and large plastic parts etc. are fed into separate recycling streams.

The remaining bodywork is shredded, separated into different categories and then as far as possible lead back into the economic cycle.

Environmental protection belongs to the basic corporate aims of Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd. That means limited use of natural resources. Consequently, our aim is: More recycling and therefore fewer disposals.

As part of the development of our vehicles, the design for environment and recycling is highly important. One example is the use of mono material systems for the underbody protection and bumpers. This allows simple dismantling and high quality material recycling. In addition natural fibres from renewable sources such as coconut or sisal and recycled materials are used in our products. The benefits are obvious: environmentally friendly and recyclable.

In the environmental policy of Mercedes-Benz UK Ltd we commit ourselves to continuous improvement of the environmental compatibility of our products. This is our benchmark for the optimization of the environmental balance of our vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz UK Limited is registered with the Environment Agency under the new Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 with registration number BPRN00328.

Our obligations for recycling vehicle batteries are being undertaken by our End of Life Vehicle provider Autogreen whose contact number is 0800 542 2002 and they will be able to assist you if you have any questions concerning the final collection and disposal of a vehicle battery.

The EU-Directive 2000 / 53 / EG concerning the take-back of end-of-life vehicles has been implemented in the UK through the end-of-life vehicle legislation and its relevant provisions. The UK regulations came into force on 3rd March 2005.

Since the legislation came into force, you have, as our customers (last holder of the vehicle) the opportunity to return your used vehicle to the manufacturer.

Your vehicle must fulfil the following requirements:

1. It must be either:

• A passenger vehicle with a maximum of 9 seats
• A commercial vehicle with a maximum weight of 3,5 t

2. The return of all models is free of charge, irrespective of the year of manufacture.

Furthermore, the vehicle must also fulfil the following criteria for a free of charge take-back:

• All significant components such as the engine (motor, gearbox etc), chassis, body work, catalytic converter or electronic control unit are present in the vehicle
• There is no waste in the vehicle
• The vehicle is or was registered in a member state of the European Union for a minimum duration of one month
• The vehicle registration documents are submitted with the vehicle
