The Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is perhaps the last word in premium small crossovers, but even so there’s a wide array of personalisation options available to the buyer.
Beyond choosing your paint colour and interior finishes, there’s a selection of extras to make your GLA a better fit with your life and we’re looking at five of best.
One of the nicest additions on the GLA-Class is the panoramic sunroof. There’s a small reduction in rear headroom as a consequence of having it fitted, but it improves the cabin aesthetics almost immeasurably. Even with just the shade section retracted, the clear view of the sky adds an extra dimension to the car.
It can be specified for £995 – which includes a change to the roof lining from grey to black – but is also included in the Premium Plus pack, or Premium pack on GLA45 AMG models.
Also included in the same packs are the Intelligent Headlights, though they too can be ordered as an individual option for £435. This set of bi-Xenon light units, with LED daytime running lights, include a corner assist function and adaptive high beam, both enhancing your sight distance (and improving safety) at night and reducing the level of dazzle to other road users.
The Mercedes me function – £150 with a three-year contract – gives a novel range of services to the GLA-Class driver. This include useful tools such as remote fault diagnosis and geographical monitoring (so you’ll never lose it in a car park again) but also an emergency call system which alerts emergency services in the event of a crash. Mercedes me is also included within the COMAND system if specified, itself part of some option packs.
You can opt for a level of autonomy in your GLA-Class too, with the Driving Assistance Package. This £1,495 option will add Distronic adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, lane keeping assist and the pre-safe collision avoidance and mitigation system. It’s this suite of options that helps the GLA-Class to a five star Euro NCAP rating. If you’re more of a fan of safety through driving, the GLA45 AMG can be specified with an AMG Drivers Package. This includes a day’s tuition at an AMG Driving Academy location – a 4-hour session with one-to-one instruction and a number of emergency situation techniques, including wet surface obstacle avoidance. Also included in this £1,940 pack is an increase in your vehicle’s speed limiter setting, from 155mph to 168mph.
