Mercedes kicks off 2015 with record sales
Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, was of course thrilled with the news, “We have started the 'year of the SUVs' at Mercedes-Benz with a sales increase of 37% in this segment.”
“In 2015 we will continue last year’s momentum with new products across all segments: in the high-end with the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 and in the microcar-segment with the new smart fortwo and smart forfour, which are highly popular among our customers.”
Adding, “January unit sales of the new smart models increased by nearly 30% in comparison to the previous year’s month."
The European market continues to progress nicely for Mercedes-Benz with a 14.5 per cent sales increase to 47,693 vehicles.
Particularly high growth rates were accomplished in the UK (+20.4 per cent), Italy (+16.3 per cent), Spain (+47.4 per cent) and France (+22.1 per cent).
In their home market of Germany, Mercedes sold 11.4 per cent more vehicles than in the same month of 2014 (15,503 units).
Record sales were also achieved in the USA (+8.9 per cent) – a new record was also hit in Canada with a sales growth of 8.2 per cent.
The Asia-Pacific region achieved a sales record of 46,269 vehicles (+16.4 per cent) – out of which 28,080 models reached customers in China.
2015 started with a bang for the S-Class – not only was it voted best luxury car by readers of “auto, motor und sport” it was the best-selling luxury automobile in the world with a record of 8,111 units sold.
Increasing sales of SUV models has led to 37 per cent growth in this sector – the GLK-, GL- and G-Class all posted record figures in the first month of 2015.
The new smart models released last November are proving very popular with customers – in January, unit sales hit 8,457 for smart fortwo and forfour models – a 29.9 per cent increase compared to the previous year’s month.
